Boston's MBTA subway (the T) is the fastest and cheapest way to get around. Pick up a reusable CharlieCard at any station fare-vending machine — subway rides cost $2.40 per trip, and a 7-Day LinkPass provides unlimited subway and local bus travel. Skip driving: parking is scarce and expensive. Much of Boston is best seen on foot. The Freedom Trail, Beacon Hill, the North End, Downtown, and the Public Garden are all walkable from each other in a comfortable half-day loop. Good walking shoes are more useful than any transit pass for a first-time visitor. A passenger ferry connects Long Wharf (downtown) to the Boston Harbor Islands in summer, with service to Georges, Spectacle, and Peddocks isl
